Hi! I’m Benjamin Brackett. I am a practicing Physician Assistant with a passion for emergency and hyperbaric/dive medicine. I hold a certificate of additional qualifications in emergency medicine, and I am a certified diving medical practitioner. I am also a career firefighter, I still hold my paramedic certification, I am , a HAZMAT technician and a public safety diver, and I may have a serious addiction to 3d printing.

I mean… why settle for just one high-adrenaline job?

I completed my first dive in the summer of 1997, became a SCUBA Instructor in 2007, and then leveled up as an Instructor Trainer in 2017, because why not keep adding more certifications?

I have completed the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) Physician in Diving Medicine course at the NOAA facility in Seattle Washington, and the Diving Medical Advisory/UHMS Medical Examiner of Fitness to Dive course. I have also completed the International Board of Undersea Medicine (IBUM) Diving Medical Practitioner course. I hold a Bachelors of Science in Biology (Bs), a Masters in Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology, a Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS), and a Doctorate in Medical Science (DMSc), and I have a certificate of additional qualifications in Disaster and Humanitarian Medicine. I also completed the Wilderness Medical Society Fellowship in Wilderness Medicine As a couple of my friends like to say, I am educated AF!

My favorite dive destination? That really depends on what type of dive you are asking about. If I was FORCED to rank my top sites, I would probably reply with, in no particular order:

  1. Palau – it is just beautiful, and throw in some shipwrecks from World War II!
  2. Socorro – Mantas on every dive, hammerheads, and I have actually petted a dolphin, in the wild, TWICE!
  3. Truk Lagoon – shipwrecks shipwrecks and more shipwrecks
  4. Cozumel – it is a 2:16 flight to get there and it is the second largest barrier reef in the world. Plus, the Mexican culture and people are beautiful.
